A set of chairs created specifically for Cafe Klint, located within Design Museum Denmark. The underlying concept of this project revolves around the notion of tempo, with the aim of enhancing the customer experience within the cafe space.
Given the unique layout of the cafe, situated in a narrow, rectangular room that also serves as a passageway to other museum areas, a thorough analysis of various factors was done, such as customer movement, spatial area, lighting, and staff workflow. Based on this analysis, the space was divided into three distinct tempo zones: fast, medium, and slow.
By aligning the physical attributes of the chairs with the corresponding tempo zones, the aim was to create a cohesive and intuitive environment that seamlessly guides customers through their cafe experience. These specially designed chairs not only serve as functional seating options but also contribute to the overall ambiance and atmosphere of the space, as well as intuitively navigating the space.
To effectively guide customers to the appropriate part of the space based on their orders and desired length of stay, three distinct chairs were created, each embodying a specific tempo expression with variations in thickness, height, depth, and tilt to visually communicate the different tempos.
The fast chair, with its sleek and dynamic form, encourages quick dining or takeaway orders, ideal for customers seeking a swift experience. The medium chair strikes a balance between comfort and efficiency, accommodating customers who wish to enjoy their meals at a moderate pace. Lastly, the slow chair offers a relaxed and cozy seating option for customers who prefer a leisurely dining experience or wish to spend more time in the cafe.
