MONO Oak
in collaboration with Alvar Silvennoinen
Inspired by the strong expression and identity of the monumental and monolithic egyptian architecture, as well as the recurring shapes and textures of traditional objects and sculptures. This was translated into a stool with its own strong identity and details honoring the historical and local craftsmanship of Egypt.
First created in solid oak and produced in collaboration with the Egyptian furniture factory Pinnochio in Damietta. Later analysed in different materials to investigate how the material can change the perception and understanding of an object, while investigating the impact of different production methods.
The stool is made of solid oak, glued together in horizontal and vertical layers. It was then CNC:d to its rough shape and finished by amazing artisans who hand-carved the seat, helping us reach our desired look and goal. It is then stained black and oiled. We worked closely together with egyptian artisans and woodworkers in the furniture factory Pinnochio in Damietta, Egypt to produce the first stool in solid oak, learning about traditional cultures, crafts and production methods.
